Osun election: PDP agent arrested for alleged vote-buying

An agent of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been arrested for alleged vote-buying at ward 1, unit 1, Obada Ede local government area of Osun state.

The agent whose identity was not disclosed was said to have brought out money openly, forcing security operatives at the unit ti pick him up.

Ademola Adeleke, candidate of the PDP in the election is from the local government.

There have been allegations of inducement of voters by members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the PDP in the state.

At unit 1, Asunmk ward in Talafia area of Ede, an APC agent claimed to have some money with him to be distributed to those who voted for the party.

Earlier Isiaka Oyetola, candidate of the APC in the election, had denied reports that his party was involved in vote-buying.

“I don’t know anything about buying of votes; I haven’t seen anybody here buying votes,” Oyetola had said in response to a question from TheCable.

Inducement of voters was one of the challenges the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) faced in Ekiti state.

The commission had vowed to tackle it in Osun, seeking the support of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Olusegun Agbaje, INEC resident electoral commissioner of in Osun, had said if vote-buying is not killed in the ongoing governorship election, the country would be in serious trouble in 2019.
